This is Rutam.
He is eight years old.
He has trouble following clear instructions.
He forgets what was taught to him, literally, 5 minutes ago.
He makes the same mistakes again and again.
(And I still love him!)

These are the same issues that most companies face with their employees.

The picture above was taken while we were assembling an aeroplane together on a lazy Sunday. There was a design printed on the back of the box in which the parts had arrived.
I was waiting for him to discover the steps himself and just gently guiding him. To my surprise, he assembled the same parts in a quite different configuration, to make a contraption which resembled an airplane.
It was HIS aeroplane from then on.

This is the exact same way, we work with our clients.
The Leaders’ Lab way here, is involving employees to be a part of the solution.
Taking their feedback.
Empowering them to craft a solution.
A solution that was designed by THEM.
Which they therefore OWN.

Rather than simply telling them what to do, hearing from them what they would want done. When they experience being heard, they open up.

Countless times, I have seen the solution to a complex problem crop up from an offhand remark by a staff member. Given a space for self-expression, people are usually big enough to find solutions themselves.

So how do we do that?
A quote by Xun Kuang comes to mind:
“Tell me & I forget,
Teach me & I Remember,
Involve me and I learn”.
